MARIO MENEZES.

Mr. MARIO MENEZES who is a well-known actor not only of Prince Jacob troupe but also of Konkani stage presently. Mr. Menezes with abundance stage talent is a highly acclaimed Konkani stage artist who plays the role of a character actor. Hailing from Chinchinim - Goa, it was according to Menezes, Fr. Freddy J. D’Costa another renowned Konkani tiatrist-priest who as one of the judges spotted Mario Menezes as best actor during one act play contest. During this particular time Mario though was very much involved in his Law Studies yet he was totally dedicated to Konkani stage. He is not only an actor of high repute, he is also a very good singer and composer and also a renowned playwright. He is a qualified man having B.Com degree to his credit from Goa University plus MBA before joining the Law College at Margao and presently he is employed at Port Trust mormugao Gone are the days when Konkani stage artists were known to be the recipient of Konkani degrees from the parochial schools in their villages with an added qualification of music. Presently some of the tiatrists like Mario Menezes are highly qualified and it is these youngsters who are creating glittering image not only of themselves but also of Konkani stage by applying their educational background for the promotion and improvement of Konkani stage. Gone were the days when Konkani tiatrists were considered by the so called elite Goans as ignorant and stupid because of their lack of educational background. Today we have different situation and by acquiring high educational background some of the dramatists today are giving extremely different view of Konkani stage and Mario Menezes definitely ranks high among this class of tiatrists. In 1982 he won the Best Actor Award from Kala Academy Tiatr competition in the drama staged by Steve Rod. In 1985 he won Best Actor Award from Gulab Magazine in Dr. Rosario Rodrigues’ non-stop drama “Fulam ani Kolle” and in the same year he was crowned as Tragedy King of Konkani Stage by Basico Branco the then Mayor of Panjim. In 1995 in the tiatr competition organized by Kala Academy. Presently he is the general secretary of Konkani Non-stop Triatristanchi Sonvstha an organization formed by non-stop tiatrists to acquire a house for them to have their rehearsals and as resting place for these tiatrists. Earlier he held different positions namely President of Goa Social and Cultural Association, president Dynamite Club Chinchinim, Member of Lions Club, vice president of Jaycees Club Chinchinim, vice president of CRC Chinchinim. Besides being a dramatist, Mr. Mario Menezes was a good soccer player representing his College Team in the inter-collegiate tourneys as well as a member of Goa University Team in the inter-university tourneys. As a dramatists he traveled entire Gulf, Bombay and London. Wherever he went as a dramatist he always managed to create a dent of his excellent caliber. His acting on the stage and singing abilities are always admired by the audience because he leaves no room for any deficiency while playing his role. He is well known in staging one act plays, he wrote over 18 one act plays, rendered songs in 20 Albums of different producers, produced his own Album “Sezari” and shortly he will release his second Album “Ostori”. He is also intending to release his own book on the history and development of Non-Stop Drama, the book is ready awaiting sponsor. He has also acted in 10 Video Films. According to Menezes, Dr. Rosario Rodrigues is the best writer, best directors are Prince Jacob and Roseferns, best actor Jose Rod, best actress Ophelia, best singer Lorna, best comedians Humbert, Domnick and Platilda, best tiatrist of the decade Mr. Boyer. The best song he composed and sung was “Mother Theresa” and the best role he played so far was that of ” A Father” in Amchem Ghor by Dr. Rosario Rodrigues with whom he associated about 9 years before joining Prince Jacob’s troupe where he is much consulted and sought after.
